Data You Give Us Directly
Search Queries
A name or place entered in a search tool is sent to the outside provider that operates that tool. The partner processes the query and supplies its response. Suffolk Criminal History does not retain or record those search terms on its own systems.
Messages and Contact Submissions
An email sent to us may be kept long enough to answer and manage the exchange. It is not shared beyond our organization unless disclosure is legally required.
Data We Gather Automatically
Routine server and analytics records may capture technical information when a page loads:
- Visit date and time
- Viewed pages and time spent
- Device type and operating system
- Browser name and version
- Internet Protocol address
- Referring page or site, when supplied
Cookies and Analytics
Small browser files called cookies help measure traffic and site use. Analytics tools combine that information to show which pages work well and where visitors leave. Browser controls can reject cookies, though a blocked cookie may change how some functions behave.
What We Do With This Data
- Diagnose errors and maintain site security
- Operate pages and improve load performance
- Route a submitted query to the selected search partner
- Measure which resources visitors use
- Display advertising that may reflect general interests
No Criminal-Record Data on File
Suffolk Criminal History does not build, keep, or sell a database of personal criminal records. It explains official routes through Suffolk Police, Western Tidewater Regional Jail, the Suffolk courts, the Virginia Department of State Police CARE and CCRE units, and the Virginia Sex Offender and Crimes Against Minors Registry. Visitor information is not turned into a third-party criminal profile or consumer report, and this resource is not a consumer reporting agency under the FCRA.
Third-Party Search Partners
Outside companies power the site's search boxes. A partner's privacy policy, retention terms, and sharing practices govern data submitted to its tool. We do not control those practices, so users should review the provider's terms before entering a query.
Links to Other Websites
Links may lead to Suffolk offices, Virginia court and agency systems, legal resources, advertisers, or search providers. Once a visitor leaves this domain, the destination's privacy terms apply. Review them before providing personal information.
Advertising services may use their own technology to recognize activity across websites. That processing occurs on the provider's systems.
Who Might See Your Data
We do not sell personal information. Limited data may be available to:
- Analytics vendors measuring performance and traffic
- Search providers receiving a query a visitor submits
- Advertising networks serving placements
- Government or law-enforcement bodies acting under valid legal process
How We Protect Your Data
Reasonable, commonly used safeguards protect the limited information handled by the site. No internet system can promise absolute security, however, and this policy does not guarantee that unauthorized access can never occur.
Users Under 18
This resource is intended for adults and does not knowingly request personal data from a person under 18. Information identified as a minor's will be removed after a valid deletion request.
Your Data Rights
Rights vary with residence and the law that applies. Virginia public-record access under the Virginia Freedom of Information Act governs government records, while criminal-history dissemination is limited by Va. Code ยง 19.2-389. For personal data held directly by this private site, a visitor may:
- Request access to available personal information
- Ask that inaccurate information be corrected
- Seek deletion when retention is not legally required
- Object to eligible forms of processing
Updates to This Policy
Revisions become effective when the updated policy and date appear here. Visitors should review this page periodically for changes.
